Our MEd SPED grads get hired!

Apply now for our MEd in Special Education program so you can make a difference in urban classrooms. The COE offers multiple ways to advance your career and broaden your opportunities. Through the MEd program (strand 2), students can also work toward all 6 advanced Learning Behavior Specialist II certificates.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of special education positions is expected to increase by 17% from 2008 to 2018 and increasing numbers of students will be identified as having special needs. In fact, 100% of our 2010 - 2011 graduates were hired, despite the current state of the job market, with a large number now working for CPS. Because the field of special education is consistently classified as a high-need area, there are many different ways to fund your education through scholarships, grants, and loan forgiveness programs.

UIC SPED grads are highly sought after especially in Chicago because of the high quality preparation they receive. UIC is a nationally ranked research university so principals and administrators know that we teach research-based ideas methods and our grads learn research and evidence-based teaching necessary to be effective in the classroom. The quality and intensity of our field experiences is higher than other area schools – our students complete over 200 hours of fieldwork. Finally, our nationally recognized faculty sit at the forefront of the field and are heralded for their research and practice that is committed to urban schools.

Apply today for Fall 2013 and join the ranks of SPED alum who are making a difference in classrooms everyday!
