Yowell asks how colleges of education can reinvent learning in a digital age

What if schools were more like video games? Could game designers reshape curriculum? Could blocks of reading, writing and arithmetic be replaced by missions of inquiry and intrigue?

And if that happened, what role would colleges of education play in preparing the teachers, leaders and policymakers in the digital era?

All good questions, said Constance M. Yowell, director of education for U.S. programs at MacArthur Foundation in Chicago, ones colleges of education should be prepared to answer. Bold efforts are already underway to create schools such as these, so the influence digital media is having on the way students learning should have institutions sitting up and taking notice.
